SUMMARY:Invasive Species: Which ones should we worry about?
DESCRIPTION:Invasive species are introduced plants or animals that spread and compete with native species. Most introduced species are not invasive\, but a small number are. Invasive plant species are mostly introduced by the worldwide horticulture trade\, though some are introduced by government bodies such as the Natural Resource Conservation Service. Many species listed as invasive do little harm\, but often great effort and expense are devoted to extirpating them. With an emphasis on trees and shrubs\, we will discuss why some invasive species are more troublesome than others\, and you may be surprised at what we discover in our discussion. \nThis is a Zoom webinar. There will be ample opportunity for participants to post questions.

SUMMARY:Honey Bees\, Native Bees\, and Creating a Bee-Friendly Landscape: A Short Course
DESCRIPTION:Bees are fascinating and widely diverse creatures with many different behaviors and life histories. Our most widely recognized bee\, the honey bee\, is native to Europe and Africa. However\, there are over 4\,000 species of bees native to the U.S.\, most of which are not nearly as familiar as the honey bee\, nor as well studied. Researchers are only just beginning to realize how important our native bees are to both the environment and agriculture\, especially small-scale agriculture. Join us for this four-part short course to learn about honey bees\, some of our local native bees\, and ways that you can encourage bee populations on your property by creating a bee-friendly landscape. \nClass Topics:\nJuly 8: An Introduction to Honey Bees\nJuly 15: An Introduction to Native Bees\nJuly 22: Creating a Bee-Friendly Landscape: Providing Shelter\nJuly 29: Creating a Bee-Friendly Landscape: Providing Forage
